THE METROPOLITAN PARK ZOO!

The Metropolitan Park Zoo of Santiago, established in 1925, houses a population of over 1000 animals distributed in 158 native and exotic species. Among it’s main attractions one will find a large walk-in aviary, a movie theater known as Zoocine and an amphitheater with live exhibitions!

THE NATIONAL LIBRERY!

The National Library is the oldest cultural institution in the country and the main center of Chile bibliographic heritage. Mandatory deposit of all recorded domestic production, its mission is to collect, preserve and disseminate the various -printed library materials and other brackets- as part of the national collective memory, to enable access to information and knowledge contained in their collections.

PROVIDENCIA CULTURAL INSTITUTE!

The Cultural Institute of Providencia was created in 1961 and located at the former “Dussaillant House”, which suffered catastrophic damage during the 1971 earthquake and was torn down. Later, in 1978, the “Schacht House” was acquired and remodeled especially for its current purpose. The building was declared historical monument in 2005 and hosts concerts, art exhibitions and many other events.

FORESTAL PARK!

This park, a true green lung, was born on early 20th century, related to the garden and museums of Bellas Artes and Contemporary Art. With pleasant trees and lots of shade to escape from the summer heat, water fountains, children playgrounds and lawns, is one of the most notorious  parks in Santiago. It’s close to the bohemian lifestyle of Barrio Lastarria and during weekends there are planty street art presentations, music and fairs.

PABLO NERUDA HOUSE MUSEUM!!!

The most famous chilean poet Pablo Neruda began building a house in Santiago, to Matilde Urrutia, his secret love then, in 1953. In “The Chascona” – the name of the house that you will discover there why it’s called like that – they tell you a little bit about the artist’s life. Also are conserved among other collections of him, an interesting art gallery with works of chilean and foreign painters known worldwide. As well the house’s ambients, as his dining room with the original crockery and cutlery, are exposed. Very interesting!

LAST DAY OF FOOD FESTIVAL IN PROVIDENCIA!!!

Tomorrow is the last day of the first Food Truck Festival in Santiago, the “Entre Ruedas”! Organized by the City of Providencia and the Association of Itinerant and Mobile Gastronomy, during 25th, 26th and 27th july, 25 mobile trucks serve all kinds of fast food: sandwiches, hot dogs, arepas, fajitas, cakes, ice creams, among others. Beyond that, good music liven up the event, which runs from 11am to 21pm. Highlighting Kombi Crêpes, where pancakes are made by real french people. 🙂

DANCE PERFOMANCE IN LASTARRIA!!!

Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) invites you to a dance concert this saturday – 26/07 – and people from Hostal Providencia have a great discount! Called “The stubborn night”, the play gives an external view of performing arts emerged in Chile in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The argentine Pablo Rotemberg (from The fixed idea and The Wagner and Savage, their last great success in Argentina) is the choreographer responsible for this incredible show!
